IFAD-VCDP scales up market facilities in communities

The International Fund for Agricultural Development – Value Chain Development Programme, IFAD-VCDP, participating local government areas of Orumba North and Anambra East have applauded Anambra government over N29 million Market Infrastructure funding.

Toilet facilities are also expected to be included in the projects at Eke Awgbu and Igbariam markets.

The structures which were constructed by IFAD-Value Chain Development Programme, was recently handed over to benefitting farmers for full utilisation.

In a speech during the inauguration, Afam Mbanefo, the Anambra commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, said the projects were aimed at uniting all the IFAD-VCDP members. He was represented by Emenike Ezinando, the permanent secretary of the ministry.

Mbanefo urged them to rent out the shops at affordable rates, with preference to VCDP beneficiaries, promising that they would sink water a borehole to support sanitation efforts at the facilities.

Ify Obinabo, the Transition Committee chairman, Orumba North LGA, speaking through Peter Nwafor, re-assured of civility, maintenance and total environmental cleanliness.

The Vice President-General of Igbariam, Mr Marcel Iferika also assured the people of maintenance of the IFAD projects in their area.

Nnamdi Agwuncha, the Anambra State Programme Coordinator, SPC, IFAD-VCDP, in handing over the project at Eke Awgbu Market, enjoined them to put the structures into good use.

He, however, announced their readiness to install cassava processing plants in the area.

The SPC urged them to take full ownership of the structures to achieve its purpose, and urged them to take good care of the projects.

Chukwuemeka Ifediche, the cluster chairman of IFAD-VCDP in Orumba North LGA, while speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries praised the gesture and promised its judicious use.

The structures comprised 14 stalls with two warehouses and 10 lock up stores with VIP toilets.
