THE Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Mr. Liman Ibrahim, has condemned the attack on firefighters by hoodlums at Bakasi market in Abia.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer of the service, Mrs. Ugo Huan, disclosed that Ibrahim was reacting to the vandalism of a fire truck in Abia.

The CG described the vandalism of the truck and attack of its personnel as condemnable and appealed to the public to desist from attacking firefighters at fire incidence scenes.

He said that there was no justification for the attack on firefighters who respond to emergency calls to save lives and properties.

“I am calling on the market, community leaders, and other leaders to always speak to their followers on the need to desist from this awkward attitude.

“A situation where the safety of firefighters will not be guaranteed in particular areas when they are called upon will only discourage them from turning out to such locations any time there is an emergency.

“I will not fold my hands to watch incessant attacks on firefighters and fire trucks at fire scenes,” he said.

Ibrahim said that the service, in collaboration with the Abia State government, would work with the Police to ensure that the perpetrators faced the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others. (NAN)
