THE Federal Government has solicited continued implementation of Federal Government-VCDP/IFAD in Anambra State.
Market and Enterprise Development Adviser, MEDA, Federal Government/IFAD VCDP, Fatima Mukhtar-Buhari, said this during a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Agriculture Mechanisation, Processing and Export, Nnamdi Onukwuba in Awka.
While speaking on the aim of her visit, she noted that reports of Anambra State Coordination office for the intervention programme monitored in Abuja showed that the state was doing well in the implementation processes.
Mukhtar-Buhari, who was on a two-day implementation support visit to the state, was received at the Amansea border with neighbouring Enugu by a team from the Ministry of Agriculture and State Programme Management Unit (SPMU) of Value Chain Development Programme, Awka.
The commissioner while welcoming the guests, described the visit as an eye-opener, saying that it would help in the budgeting process and scaling up of the activities of the Anambra State FGN-VCDP/IFAD to the highest position at National and International levels.
He said that the visit would also be beneficial to the state farmers and would boost farming activities in the state.
The Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and member representing Awka North, John Nwokoye, said that they were working on improving cluster farming introduced by Gov. Willie Obiano to empower the youths.
He appealed to Mukhtar-Buhari to assist the state in improving the sector.
The State Programme Coordinator, FGN-VCDP/IFAD, Nnamdi Agwuncha, said that effects of COVID-19 on VCDP beneficiaries would be considered for onward intervention and assessment of levels of compliance on environment and safety measures within the processing centres.
