FG warns Nigerians on High Rate of Kidney Trafficking in Egypt

THE federal government has warned Nigerians on the increasing rate of kidney trafficking in Egypt. The federal Ministry of Health in a memo to the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, asked the association to inform its members so that Nigerians would be careful while embarking on medical tourism in other countries.

The memo made available to Realnews enjoined Nigerians travelling aboraod, especially Egypt for medical attention be on alert. The memo signed by Wapada I. Balami, director, hospital services, for the minister of Health entitled, ‘41 suspected illegal human kidney traffickers on the trail in Egypt’ revealed an increase in illegal harvesting and transplanting of human organs in Egypt.

According to the memo, the 41 human kidney traffickers have been arraigned by Egypt’s prosecutor generals. It also listed the hospitals in which the atrocities were committed. They include Dar al-shefa in Helwan, Cairo; Al-Bashar Specialist Hospital in Faisal Giza; Al-Amal Centre for General Surgery in Maurinteya, Giza; and Dar Ibn Al-Nafis Hospital, Giza.
