First Bank debunks claims of easy access to accounts by fraudsters

THE First Bank of Nigeria Limited has debunked claims by fraudsters of an alleged ease in accessing its accounts, describing it as absolutely false and baseless.
The bank made the rebuttal in a statement made available to Realnews on Saturday, August 21, after its attention was drawn to claims by gang of cybercriminals who specialize in stealing of sim cards to gain unauthorized access to the personal and banking details of their victims, who were arrested by the police.
According to the bank, “The claims by the suspects on the ease of accessing Firstbank account are baseless and untrue as the banks robust electronic banking infrastructure has been essential to ensuring the security of our customers accounts, irrespective of where they are across the world”
The bank, however, warned that the safety of customers monies remains the responsibility of everyone.
“In today’s global village, driven by electronic banking and business activities, it remains our collective responsibility to combat the menace of cyber-fraud,” it said.
It urged customers to “Please avoid storing bank and personal details such as ATM cards pins, account numbers, email, passwords, and any other classified information on mobile devices as these serve as source of information used for the electronic compromise of bank accounts.
It also asked customers to “Promptly inform the bank to de-link any inactive phone numbers previously mapped to their accounts.
“We remain committed to expanding our electronic banking architecture towards the continued safety of the bank accounts of all our customers, whilst also ensuring your ease and convenience of carrying out all transactions irrespective of where you are a cross the globe, it said.
