CAMBODIAN Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Monday his ruling party would be a dominant force in politics for as long as a century, telling the opposition it should wait until the next life if it wants to take power.

”The CPP’s vision is not just for two or three years, but for the next 50 or 100 years,” Hun said.

He, however, commended government’s investment in infrastructure and human resources, while taunting the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

“Never underestimate my government, and my ability to solve problems,” he said.

The CPP was installed following the Vietnam-backed invasion that toppled the Khmer Rouge in 1979.

Hun became prime minister in 1985 and briefly shared power with a royalist party in the 1990s before ousting his rivals in a coup in 1997.

The CNRP came close to winning a national election in 2013.

hey have since faced a sustained crackdown, including the dissolution of the party by the government-controlled judiciary in 2017.

Hun’s oldest son, Hun Manet, is widely seen as his father’s anointed successor.
