THE second joint China-India Capacity Building Programme for Diplomats from Afghanistan began in New Delhi on Monday with the participation of 10 young Afghan diplomats.

The intensive two-week course is being organised by India’s Ministry of External Affairs at New Delhi-based Foreign Service Institute (FSI).

This will include training modules on various topics covering India’s foreign policy, key international issues, multilateral diplomacy and diplomatic skills.

The participants will get an exposure to modern India’s economic and technological developments, and also undertake study tours to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.

The first of such programme was held at FSI on Oct. 15 to Oct. 26, 2018, as part of an understanding reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at their first informal summit held in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in April last year.

Ten Afghan diplomats had participated in last year’s training programme.

Addressing the Afghan diplomats during the inaugural session, Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong said the three sides – China, India and Afghanistan – could explore possibility of expanding cooperation into the field of joint capacity-building programme, consistently enriching the China-India-Afghan cooperation, and creating a new paradigm for the trilateral cooperation.

“As responsible countries of the region, China and India can also explore ways to apply their successful experience of cooperation with Afghanistan to other countries in the region.

“We can work hand in hand with partners to consolidate the prospects of regional stability and prosperity, and open a new chapter for regional cooperation between China and India,” said the Chinese envoy. (Xinhua/NAN)
