Foundation canvasses mindset change toward waste

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has appealed to Lagos residents to imbibe a change of mind set toward waste management in other to create a cleaner environment.

Mrs Abidemi Balogun, NCF’s Senior Conservation Officer, made the plea at “Orile Community Clean-Up” exercise  on Tuesday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the cleanup took place at Atanda Street in Orile-Igamu and was organised by the NCF with  support from Oando Foundation.

Balogun, also the NCF Project Lead for Oando Foundation “Clean Our World” Project, said that the exercise was focused on waste management and attitudinal change.

According to her, it is important for residents to leverage on waste- to -create wealth instead of littering the environment with waste, thereby resulting in flooding.

Mr Oyinlola Iroko, a Community Leader in Orile,  thanked Oando Foundation for collaborating with the NCF in the cleanup.

Iroko said  the community members had been warned against indiscriminate disposal of waste on the road and in drains.

He called for more Public-Private Partnerships to help  rid the state of refuse, adding that  government could not do it alone.

In his remarks, Ojora Kamoru Abiodun, Representing Ward G, Apapa Igamu Local Council Development Area ,expressed delight in the cleanup.

Abiodun thanked the organisers and volunteers for taking part in the exercise, noting that several appeals had been made to the government to put the road in order.

He expressed optimism in the capability of the state government to do the needful.

NAN also reports that some pupils of Metropolitan Primary School, Iganmu took part in the exercise.(NAN)
