The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun on Wednesday presented a stolen vehicle, a Kia Sportage, recovered by  its patrol team, to its rightful owner in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vehicle, which had no plate number at the time of recovery was said to have been stolen in Ile-Ife and  belongs to one Mrs Aderonke Sijuade.

The Sector Commander, Mr Peter Oke, who presented the vehicle alongside other top officers of the command, said thorough investigation was carried out with the police, to ascertain who the authentic owner was before returning it.

Oke noted that the vehicle, which was parked on the highway where it was recovered had no plate number but after thorough search, the vehicle documents were  discovered and was used to track the owner.

According to him, Sijuade claimed the vehicle was stolen by armed robbers in her compound at Ile-Ife and the case reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ife.

“The command got in touch with the Divisional Police Officer, who confirmed the claim with an official report.

“The command went further to confirm the claim through the NVIS FRSC Portal, before the authenticity of her claim was established,” he said.

The sector commander then said that the vehicle was jointly released by the command and the police to the rightful owner, after due process was followed to ascertain her claims.

Oke, however, called on the public to ensure they register their vehicles in case of theft. (NAN)
