THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to reduce crashes.

Mr Akeem Ganiyu, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.

Ganiyu spoke while reacting to two separate accidents that killed five persons and injured two others on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Toll-gate area on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

NAN reports that a truck on Tuesday lost control at the Toll-Gate area, due to brake failure and rammed into two vehicles and two motorcycles, leading to the death of three persons, with two injured.

A similar incident took place on Wednesday claiming the lives of a commercial motorcyclist and his passenger, after riding against traffic around Bible College area of Toll-Gate, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The unit commander stressed the need for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to reduce road crashes.

“The accident on Wednesday could have been avoided if the commercial motorcyclist did not drive against traffic.

“The motorists need to be more cautious and refrain from speeding to further prevent mishaps on the highway,” Ganiyu said.

The unit commander admonished both the motorists and commercial motorcyclists to desist from route violation to avoid unnecessary loss of lives. (NAN)
