TWELVE traditional rulers, who travelled to Abuja, to see President Muhammadu Buhari without consulting the State government, has been suspended.
Their suspension was based on the recommendations of the Traditional Rulers Council of Anambra State.
Realnews reports that Arthur Eze, self acclaimed billionaire business, led the traditional rulers on the botched visit during which they were prevented from seeing the President.
The traditional rulers were on a mission to rubbish Governor Willie Obiano by reading an undisclosed prepared speech after the visit castigating him.
Greg Obi, commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, issued a statement August 11, stating: “The Traditional Rulers Council of Anambra State resolved that the twelve (12) traditional rulers who are its members who travelled outside the State recently without consultation/approval from the State government be sanctioned.”
He added that the government has accepted the recommendation.
The list of the affected traditional rulers include Igwe Alex Edozieuno of Mkpunando; Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo of Alor: Igwe Chukwuma Bob Vincent Orji of Ezinifite; Igwe Engr. G.B.C. Mbakwe of Abacha; Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia and Igwe Nkeli Nelly of Igbariam.
The others are Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle; Igwe A.N. Onwuneme of Ikenga; Igwe Simon Ikechukwu Chidubem of Umumbo; Igwe S.O. Uche of Ezira; Igwe Dr. Emeka Iouno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Udoji of Eziagulu-Otu.
The statement reads: “By the powers conferred on His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Anambra State under Section 10(b) of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law 1981, His Excellency has directed the suspension of the Igweship Certificates of all the above mentioned for a period of one (1) year, effective from Tuesday, 11th August, 2020
“This sanction may be lifted at the end of one year (1) or renewed or upgraded to the intervening period depending on government’s review of your conduct.
“During the sanction period you are required to stop holding yourselves out as traditional rulers and to cease from discharging traditional rulers’ functions in your communities or elsewhere in the State and beyond.
“By this sanction, membership of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council is revoked and furthermore any appointment in other government committee is hereby rescinded.”
