ENGLAND midfielder Conor Gallagher scored his first goal for Atletico Madrid in their 3-0 victory over Valencia.

The 24-year-old, who joined from Chelsea in a deal worth £33 million last month, put his side 1-0 up when he slotted home from inside the area after being played in by Rodrigo De Paul.

Antoine Griezmann then doubled their lead after half-time, before Julian Alvarez also scored his first Atletico goal since his summer move from Manchester City.

The Argentina striker, who had failed to find the net in his first four appearances for the club, scrambled in from close range in stoppage time.

The result moves Atletico up to second in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona.

Gallagher is the 12th player from England to score a La Liga goal and the first to do so for Atletico Madrid.
