THE Gateway Programme, a five-year initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment, has opened registration to connect 340,000 Nigerian youths to global gig opportunities.

Speaking at the programme’s launch in Lagos, the Managing Director of CcHUB, Ms Ojoma Ochai, said the initiative would provide pathways for unemployed and underemployed youths to access sustainable income through the global gig economy.

The programme, implemented by Co-creation HUB Ltd (CcHUB), is designed to bridge the country’s skills-to-employment gap by equipping young people with in-demand digital competencies.

Ochai said the global gig economy was expanding rapidly and projected to reach about 1.85 trillion dollars by 2032.

“Participants will be trained in areas such as digital marketing, video production and editing, graphic design, and UI/UX design.

“The programme is structured to accommodate participants at different skill levels through two pathways – the Growth Pathways and the Foundation Pathways,” she explained.

She said the Growth Pathway targeted individuals with existing digital and creative skills seeking to improve their portfolios and access gig opportunities.

Ochai added that the Foundations Pathway was designed for beginners with little or no prior experience.

According to her, the programme also prioritises inclusivity, with a focus on increasing participation of women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and displaced youths.

Ochai said that the programme would be implemented across 10 states, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Delta, Edo and Enugu states.

She noted that registration was currently open through the programme’s portal for interested youths. (NAN)
