The Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, says it is set to establish a state-of-the-art Bio-Chemistry Laboratory in partnership with the National Office for Technology Aquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Yohana Izam, disclosed this on Wednesday after a parley with the Director-General of NOTAP and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology at the Federal Secretariat Abuja recently.

A statement signed by the varsity’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Agams, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said “the partnership between PLASU and NOTAP was very key and important to its pursuance of academic excellence.”

“The discussion on the partnership to deliver a state of the art biochemistry laboratory has reached an advanced stage with the confirmation of approval for take-off of the project in 2019.

“When upgraded, the biochemistry laboratory of the University is expected to host higher level research activities that will help solve industrial needs as well as provide better training for students,” the VC explained.

Izam extends appreciation to the University Council and all stakeholders for their roles that led to the success of the partnership.

The VC said, “The laboratory is conceived at a time when work on the University’s faculty of medical sciences has commenced; being related disciplines it will benefit from the services of the laboratory.”

NAN reports that the NOTAP/PZ funded initiative provides between N40 – N50 million facilities for the upgrade of laboratories in beneficiary institutions.

This is in line with federal government’s science and technology promotion policy. (NAN)
