GOC 82 Div. assures soldiers of better welfare

MAJ. – Gen. Abiodun Lagbaja, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, has assured officers and men of President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to improve their welfare.

Lagbaja gave the assurance at his maiden familiarisation and operational visit to Army headquarters in Owerri on Tuesday.

The GOC said he had been briefed of the challenges facing the brigade by the Brigade Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Tukura, and the Garrison Commander and promised to tackle them.

“It is necessary for me to come and visit you on my familiarisation tour of the formation under 82 Division.

“The President is concerned about the welfare of the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“The Chief of Army Staff has come up with a renewed vigour to address the challenges, starting with the reorganisation of soldiers in the North East.

”So, you must reciprocate this gesture by continuing to perform your duties credibly.

“I am aware of the challenges you are facing, challenges of inadequate manpower, accommodation, dilapidated structures and water supply aside others,” he said.

Lagbaja said that the army authority was doing all within its power to address all the challenges with the reorganisation of officers in the North East.

He promised to renovate the dilapidated structures to enable the personnel have conducive place to live so as to perform their duties optimally.

The GOC commended the personnel for their efforts in safeguarding the people of the state and meeting up other demands of the force.

He, however, urged the personnel not to rest on their oars.

”Thank you for the great work you have done in the North East and other places across the nation. Thank you for what you are doing in Imo to ensure that peace reigns in the nation,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the visit was the tour of facilities under the brigade, including the Military Hospital built by the Imo Government.
