ONYEKA Onwenu, director-general, National Centre for Women Development, NCWD, and one of Nigerian best female artistes, on Wednesday, disclosed that most of her hit songs were inspired by God. “I do not write songs, I download as inspire by God, and my producer can bear me witness. God is the owner of all copyright but I download from Him as he gives freely,” Onwenu said.

Speaking in Abuja at a news conference to host Nigerian youths to peace concert organised by the office of the first lady, the music legend, who composed a song for the peace concert slated for Saturday at the Eagle Square, said she was inspired to take part in the project by the first lady, who wants to be addressed as “Mama Peace.” The title of the song billed to be launched at the Eagle Square for the peace concert called “Mama Peace” is also to re-awaken the Nigerian youths on the need to imbibe the culture of peace.

Onwenu said that the song was sequel to the serial killings by the insurgents in the North-East and some pockets of violence recorded in different parts of the country. She said that the music was important for the country now that it was working to ensure that there was peace in every part of the country.

CAROLINE Sam, Nigeria’s queen of nudity who goes by the name Maheeda, has lent her voice to the anti-gay law signed by President Goodluck Jonathan. Though the law has drawn the flaks of many, both locally and internationally, Maheeda appears to be indifferent about the controversial legislation. She said: “This is my country and they have been taking care of us for long.  So, if they decide that law would be good for us, then, I’m okay with it, after all, I am not gay. I just pity those who are gay or lesbians, because I respect everybody’s decisions.  But if the government says they don’t want it like that, then we have to respect it.”

SAMMIE Okposo, a Nigerian artiste, wants to give back to the society through his newly inaugurated the Follow The Leader Organisation, FTLO, a non-governmental charity organization, NGO. According to Okposo, the FTLO will help to enlighten Nigerians on how to be good followers and what it takes to be a good leader. “Because of the high complexities of today’s societies, our world more than ever before needs a composite of noble and worthy qualities and values in the persons whom society entrusts leadership. Ironically, such leaders are very few around the world. And sadly, the few that exist may not be recognised by the majority of the people needing mentorship and leadership,” Okposo said.

He said the FTLO was established upon the four cardinal principles of peace, unity, love and life and that the values were the driving force behind organisation.

Meanwhile, the multiple-award winning singer has released a new single entitled ‘Let Peace Reign,’ and he would want people to listen to the music and work towards resolving the current regime of violence, hatred and bloodshed in the country.
