KWARA’S Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa-Buge, says the state governor, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is committed to having in place a sustainable and eco-friendly environment.

“Gov. AbdulRazaq is dedicated to ensuring a sustainable, hygienic and safe environment that all the people of Kwara and potential investors can be proud of,” she said in her presentation during the quarterly inter-ministerial press briefing on Thursday in Ilorin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the media event was organised by the state’s Ministry of Communications.

Musa-Buge pointed out that environmental initiatives in the state had been a success, such as the dredging of Asa River, as well as the Kuntu, Surulere and Eruda bridges.

“Also, there have been the desilting of drainages across the state.

“Government has provided more waste bins, expanded dump sites for proper waste disposal and encouraged waste recycling,” she said.

The Commissioner also said government had made efforts to address the recurring challenges in riverine areas.

“The present administration presented banana boats with life jackets to concerned communities, to ensure the safety of residents.

“Government has also taken decisive actions to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse, by inaugurating environmental taskforce and banning unregistered scavengers from the metropolis.

“Waste collection bins for shop owners and households had been purchased by government and would soon be distributed for proper refuse disposal,” she said.

Musa-Buge then expressed her appreciation of Gov. AbdulRazaq’s unflinching support for the ministry in order to achieve the administration’s policy thrust of ensuring a clean Kwara.

She said the governor’s progressive vision would pave way for a sustainable future, benefiting the residents and enhancing economic growth.(NAN)
