Gov. Lalong tasks journalists on professionalism

Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has tasked journalists on the need to demonstrate professionalism in their reportage as they serve as a link between the government and the people.

Lalong made the call on Wednesday in Jos during the launching of the campaign of Mrs Lucy Chindaba who is aspiring for the office of the National president of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Danladi Atu, said it was imperative that the media profession sanitised itself of those who were unprofessional in their reportage.

While unveiling Chindaba’s campaign materials, Lalong also said that ethical and professional standards were prerequisite to showcasing the pivotal roles that journalism played in the society.

The guest speaker at the occasion, Dr Nancy Ogundimu, commended Chindaba for contesting for the position and said that Nigeria was in need of audacious women who would create positive impacts on whatever sphere they were in.

She said that with the right leadership, those in the pen profession particularly women journalists,would create a positive impact in the society.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Emir of Wase, Dr Muhammadu Haruna, gave his royal blessings to the aspirant and the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, donated N 1,000,000 for the campaigns.

NAN reports that the occasion was graced by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) including women journalists.(NAN)
