THE Supreme Court has upheld the election of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, in the April 11, 2015, governorship election held in the state.

Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court on Friday, January 15, dismissed the appeal brought by Terhemen Tazoor, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to reverse the judgment of both the Benue State Governorship Election Petition and the Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division, that Ortom was validly elected as governor.

Tazoor argued that Ortom was not validly elected as governor because he was not an APC member at the time he emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, urging the Supreme Court to set aside the concurrent judgments of the two courts, which had dismissed his petition for lacking in merit.

The Supreme Court is the final arbiter in the governorship election case.
