NKEM Okeke, the Anambra State deputy governor, has said government planned to intervene to resolve ongoing leadership tussle in Awka Traditional Council.

Okeke, promised that the intervention would be taken up soon after the Nov. 18 Governorship Election in the state.

The deputy governor gave the assurance during crucial meeting with stakeholders of Awka community, while reminding them that peace was fundamental in the present drive of Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.

The government was committed toward transforming Awka and giving it a befitting capital status that it deserved.

Okeke earlier visited the Traditional Ruler of Awka, Igwe Obi Gibson Nwosu, his cabinet, Chairmen of the 33 Communities in Awka.

He also visited the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South, at the royal palace.

He, thereafter, visited the other faction involved in the traditional leadership crisis in the community.

The deputy governor, then, re-counted Obiano’s achievements in the state to include adequate security, investment opportunities, agricultural revolution and infrastructure drive.

He also promised that over next four years of the Obiano government would be devoted to consolidating on other aspects of developments in the state.

Igwe Nwosu, then, reassured of the support of Awka people toward the Obiano administration saying that APGA would emerge victorious in Nov. 18 elections.

Chairman of Awka South, Sir Leo Iwoba thanked the Deputy Governor for his peace mission, saying that the people had decided to re-elect Obiano.

He asked the governor to protect their votes.

Also, the President-General, Tony Okechukwu and Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Ben Nwankwo, expressed their readiness for peace in line with the Constitution of the community.

They asked for. Obiano to continue in his effort at developing Awka, promising they would vote en masse for APGA.

One of the stakeholders in the Community, Prof. A. U. Nonyelu, reminded Ndi Awka that the present administration had the capacity to complete programmes already started in their community.

“We hope that development will be extended to inner parts of Awka.’’
