Groom, Bride, Three Others kidnapped in Ondo

A GROOM, Moses Yakubu, and his bride were abducted on Sunday by gunmen at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State few hours to their engagement.

The intending couple and three other family members were coming from Okene in Kogi State to Ondo for the engagement when the incident occurred.

The ceremony, slated for Sunday, was to take place at Ogungbolahan Street, Off Olusegun Agagu Road, Aule Quarters, Akure, the state capital.

The venue was thrown into a mournful mood immediately the guests, friends and family members of the victims were aware of the incident.

Sources said the bride and her younger sister were later freed while the groom and two others were taken away by the kidnappers.

Ahmed Amodu, father of the bride, confirmed the incident, saying the bride and her younger sister had been released but his son and two others were taken away.

Femi Joseph, spokesman of the state police command, also confirmed the abduction and said policemen had been drafted to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims.

Joseph said the command would do everything possible to put an end to incessant kidnappings in the Akoko area of the state which shares boundaries with Kogi and Edo states.

The PPRO disclosed that the new state Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju, had been meeting top officers of the command on the best way to address the issue.

The Akoko area is notorious for kidnappings as some passengers travelling on Owo-Ikare-Akoko Road were abducted about two weeks ago. – Independent
