Group lauds FG on speedy passport processing, seeks measures against insecurity

THE Yoruba Youth Assembly (YYA), a socio-cultural group, has commended the federal government for clearance of backlog of lnternational passports and making application, processing and collection time-lines shorter and seamless.
Mr Olarinde Thomas, Worldwide President, YYA, made the remark in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
He said it was resolved at YYA’s general meeting held in Ibadan with all its 38 affiliates in attendance to commend the government in appreciation of the gesture.
Thomas said the new two weeks timeline for processing of passport applications was highly impressive deserving accolades.
He said the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s clearance of 204,332 backlog of passport applications was another milestone to be celebrated.
He added that the assembly described “Tunji-Ojo as a gold fish that has no hiding place.”
He commended Tunji-Ojo who according to him has achieved beyond expectations within a short period in office.
Thomas said it had never happened in Nigeria’s history that the backlogs of 204,332 passports will be cleared within two weeks.
Olarinde added that youths were proud of Tunji-Ojo’s unprecedented record which showed that young people had potential to turn things around in Nigeria.
The Worldwide President of the Group thanked the minister for sanitising the system.
“It is a good one and we are proud of this achievement that comes from our youthful minister,” he said.
The Assembly further advised the minister to adopt measures and ensure adequate security in all correctional centres across the country to prevent jail breaks.
YYA also called on the Inspector General of Police to improve the security mechanism to checkmate kidnapping and banditry in the country.
They urge President Bola Tinubu to make more poverty alleviation policies, block leakages to boost development and collaborate with Civil Societies for proper monitoring.
They commended Tinubu on how he handled the issue of workers welfare and advised states to emulate the gesture to increase the minimum wage to cushion effect of fuel subsidy removal.
They further pleaded with the federal government to monitor states’ salary increment scales and ensure Local government autonomy for dividends of democracy to reach the grassroot. (NAN)
