THE African Youth Assembly for Peace (AYAP) says it is important for stakeholders to strengthen advocacy towards peace building in the country.

Mr Abdul-Aziz Yusuf, the Head of Communications of the group made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, as the country celebrates the International Day of Peace, with the theme: “End Racism. Build Peace”.

Yusuf said peace was a veritable tool towards ensuring growth and development of any nation.

He therefore urged stakeholders to make a concerted effort towards building a society where every individual feels safe and could flourish regardless of their human race.

”We wish to call on all stakeholders irrespective of tribes, religion or political affiliations to embrace peace.

”There is the need to foster peace through education and parents must also teach their children the key concepts that promote peace such as conflict-resolution.

”Peaceful dialogue, consensus-building and the choice of non-violence,” he said.

According to him, that will encourage a culture of peace and ending racism among human race.

Yusuf also urged the relevant authorities to strengthen institutions that promote political and economic stability that guarantee protection of lives and property.

”Government at all levels should promote economic and social stability through the elimination of poverty, food insecurity and social injustice,” he said.

He also called on the need to support women empowerment and their economic emancipation, girl-child education as well as violence against women and children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the day was aimed at raising awareness on the need to educate the society on issues related to violence against humanity and the need to encourage peaceful coexistence. (NAN)
