GUINEA-Bissau’s main opposition leader Domingos Simoes Pereira is to appear before the junta’s military tribunal on 13 February 2026 on allegations of coup plotting, the French News Agency AFP, reports.

Pereira is under house arrest after his release from detention on 31 January following former President Umaro Embalo’s self-coup on 26 November 2025.

Dr Fernando Dias da Costa, who claimed victory in the 23 November election, in which Embalo is believed to have lost, has also left the Nigerian Embassy, with the security of both men uncertain.

Embalo is determined to return to power after his manufactured coup, with his military loyalists holding the fort & Guinea-Bissau a narco-state under boiling tensions.
