THE Mobility Command of the Nigerian (NAF) in Bayelsa said that no fewer than 155 ex-servicemen benefited from its medical outreach to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the state.

Wing Commander Mohammed Shuiabu, Head of NAF Medical team, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Yenagoa that the outreach was in collaboration with the Defence Health Maintenance Limited.

Shuiabu said the benefiting retirees cut across the Army, Navy and Air Force, adding that the exercise was aimed at assisting the retirees and to give them a sense of belonging.

He said that the 2019 programme was targeting at between 250 and 300 retirees, compared with the 300 persons recorded in 2018.

Shuiabu said: “People are not turning up, but l hope that they will come because the programme is a continuing event.

“Right now, out of the 155 persons we have attended to, we have five people referred to Specialist Hospital, Yenagoa based on various ailments

“We test and treat them on various ailments, including malaria and Typhoid after blood test; we test them on their sugar level and any other ailment.

“The programme is not only to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, it is also continuing to ensure that the men and women that had served this nation are given a sense belonging.

“We have those that have registered but are not yet here and those that are yet to register.“

He called on those concerned to take advantage of the exercise and receive treatment for their ailment, assuring them that the medical team was on ground to attend to them.
