ActionAid inaugurates committee on girl-child education, gender responsive services

ACTIONAID Nigeria, on Wednesday inaugurated a planning committee for the implementation of its ‘Breaking Barrier Project’ on Girl Child Education, Tax Justice and Gender Responsive Public Service in Sokoto State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the steering committee is to develop plans for the five-year project conducted by ActionAid through its Sokoto-based partner, Rural Women and Youth Development (RUWOYD), an NGO.

Inaugurating the committee, the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, urged the committee members to justify the confidence reposed on them in the discharge of their duties.

Umar-Jabbi said ActionAid being funded by Norwegian Government is working to ensure good governance and accountability as well as tackle impediments to quality education for all.

He added that the organization also strived towards achieving employment for all, especially among youths and to prevent all forms of restiveness among others.

Responding, the committee Chairman, Malama Halima Yusuf, assured that they would live up to expectation in  achieving the objectives of the project.

Yusuf enjoined members as well as the general public to cooperate with them.

Other committee members include Babangida Sa’idu as Vice Chairman, Asmau Abdullahi, Secretary, Lawal Aliyu and Habibu Harisu as Public Relation Officers among others.

NAN report that the ‘‘Breaking the Barriers Project in Girl Child Education, Tax Justice and Gender Responsive Public Service” is a five year project to be implemented in 15 schools located in Sokoto South, Tambuwal and Binji Local Government Areas.

Under the project, ActionAid’s focus would be to ensure public education systems were more responsive to the needs of all children especially girls and marginalised ones.

The stand of the project is equality, equity and justice aimed at removing the barriers militating against access to education especially for the girl child.
