Agency treats 28,973 people living with HIV/AIDS

The Enugu State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ENSACA) is currently treating 28,973 people living with HIV/AIDS in the state.

The Executive Secretary of ENSACA, Dr Uche Agu, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Friday.

He said that the agency had 22 major centres in health facilities in the state where it engaged the people.

According to him, the HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state stands at 4.9 per cent of the entire population.

The executive secretary said that the agency had adopted the Test and Treat Modal strategy to sustain the fight against HIV/AIDS.

He said that the agency needed more funding to sustain medicare for the people.

“Another challenge is the willingness of people to come forward to access the free treatment,’’ he said. (NAN)
