Anambra Assembly confirms health insurance boss

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Amaechi Beluonwu as substantive Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, ANSHIS.

Confirming the appointment, Rita Mmaduagwu, the speaker of the State House of Assembly, expressed confidence in the ability of the Medical Practitioner to inject his wealth of experience into the agency.

Beluonwu, who appeared before the House for screening said his confirmation would spur him to swing into action immediately, so as to positively turn around the fortunes of the newly established scheme.

He thanked Governor Willie Obiano for considering him worthy to pilot the affairs of the scheme.

He added that he had come to give his best to effect success of the programme, targeted at improving the health needs of Ndi Anambra.

Earlier, the House had passed a bill for a law to make provision for the revision, printing and publication of revised laws of Anambra state for second reading.

Similarly, a bill for a law to provide for the prohibition of the operation of commercial motorcycles in the state scaled second reading.

Victor Pkoye, the sponsor of the bill and majority leader, explained that the essence of the bill was to give legal backing to the ban on commercial motorcycle operation in certain areas in the state.

Hafford Oseke, deputy speaker, expressed joy that road accidents had reduced tremendously in the state as a result of the ban, describing the bill as a welcome development.

Kingsely Iruba, the chairman, House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism, and Lawrence Ezeudu representing Dunukofia Constituency, spoke in favour of the bill.

Supporting the motion for adjournment, Obinna Emeneka, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, urged the commissioner for Transport to always monitor activities of tricycle operators in the state in order to curtail their excesses.

Nkoli Nmegbuanaeze, the member representing Idemili North Constituency, commended Obiano for prompt intervention on Ogidi road and the Uke-Ideani gully erosion.
