Association calls for construction of standard clinic at GGSS Taura

Hajiya Sabuwa Kurawa, Chairperson, Taura Old Girls Students Association (TOGA) class 88 of Government Girls Science School, Taura has called on Jigawa Government to construct standard clinic and provide boreholes for the school.

She made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday.

She said there was also need for the state government to renovate the school buildings and equip the computer rooms with all the necessary facilities to enhance teaching and learning.

Kurawa also called on donor agencies, well-to-do individuals and other TOGA chapters in other states to contribute their quota toward improving science education in the state and the country at large.

“The school need a standard E-Library; teachers should be sponsored to go for training like workshops, seminars and conferences to improve their teaching skills.

“Students’ hostels should be provided with adequate beds, staff quarters should be renovated as well as provide standard generator to the school,” Kurawa said.

She said that GGSS Taura was established in 1985, adding that TOGA celebrated its 30th anniversary recently.

The chairperson further said that some of its members were medical doctors, lawyers and academicians among others, contributing toward the development of various sectors of the economy at local and national levels.

“TOGA Class 88 was established in 2010 to foster the spirit of unity, sisterhood, develop and promote the teaching and study of science subjects across the nation.

“The association supports government toward smooth running of science education in schools in the state,” Kurawa said.

The Chairperson added that the association had achieved a lot, especially in building a new Mosque, renovation of classrooms, toilets, assisting the families of deceased members and members in cases of sickness and weddings.

She called on all old students not only from TOGA but across the country to emulate members of the association by visiting their alma maters and contribute toward the development of education in the country.

“Parents should try as much as possible monitor their children in school and know the type of friends they move with.“Kurawa, however, commended the Jigawa Commissioner of Education, Science and Technical, Hajiya Rabi Ishaq, for providing the necessary equipment needed in the school in order to promote ‘Girl Child Education’.

She also commended the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sunusi ll, for his assistance to the school and Jigawa State Government for prompt response to salvage the school. (NAN)
