EBELECHUKWU Obiano, the wife of the governor of Anambra State, has re-emphasised her commitment toward reducing infant and child mortality rate.

“I have my eyes set on possibly eradicating it in the state,’’ Mrs Obiano said this, while addressing women at Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) during her tour.

She said: “Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ)’’, was established with a passion to assist the needy and less privileged in the society.

“It is also aimed at promoting the welfare and safety of its citizens as well as reducing women-child vulnerability.’’

She explained that government was not relenting at ensuring that adequate security was provided to protect lives and property of citizens.

Mrs. Obiano said that in spite of the recession, the state government still maintained regular payment of workers salary and pensions.

She cited instances of promotion of agriculture and export of vegetables — okro and other crops – that were being packaged for export to other countries.

She, however, called on women to ensure judicious use of opportunities provided by government in equipping themselves and as well as learning skills for self-sufficiency.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Rachel Asha Nnabuife, the Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili North LGA, commended the wife of the governor for visiting women in his constituency.

He called for support for Governor Willie Obiano’s re-election during the November 18, gubernatorial election.

The event had in attendance, traditional rulers, women from diverse groups, political appointees, youths and CAFE Ambassadors.

The highlight of the event was presentation of bags of rice to women, wrappers, delivery kits to pregnant women, school bags and food items.
