COALITION of NGOs has appealed for improved collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health to enhance primary healthcare service delivery through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A statement by Mrs Boade Akinola, the Director Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health, said the President of IntraHealth International, Mr Pape Gaye, made the appeal when the coalition members paid courtesy visit to the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole in Abuja.

She stated that the coalition included IntraHealth International, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa and DAI Global Health.

She quoted Gaye as saying “the coalition would assist Nigeria to improve healthcare delivery, especially at the grassroots.

“The coalition members specialised in health care workers’ capacity building through training programmes.

“Nigeria, through the coalition, would harvest the capacity that existed in private sector toward making quality healthcare accessible to the populace.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said Nigeria would benefit by aligning with organisations offering innovative and transformative opportunities that would accelerate healthcare delivery in the country.

According to him, Federal Government is ready to partner with any capable organisations to make quality health care accessible and affordable to Nigerians in line with SDGs.

The Minister said Federal Ministry of Health was poised to experiment on new models which could be replicated conveniently in all states of the federation.

He, however, stressed the need for government to integrate necessary deliverables targeted at making any model adopted sustainable in the long run.

Adewole said government was currently trying out a basic healthcare model in Niger, Abia and Osun states through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

He added that the Ministry of Health was mapping the models experimented upon to reduce overlapping of functions “so as to know what is working or not working toward better healthcare service delivery in Nigeria.” (NAN)
