COVID-19: Key into ‘New Normal’ without compromise -ACG task staff

CLEMENTINE Okereke, The Assistant Controller General of Corrections and Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘G’ has tasked staff of the Edo Command to key into the new normal of the COVID-19 pandemic reality without security compromise.

Okereke gave the charge during her three days working visit Edo Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) correctional facilities.

This was contained in a statement by Mr Aminu Suleman, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Thursday.

According to him, “Every staff of the Nigerian Correctional Service must key into the New Normal of the COVID-19 pandemic reality without security compromise”, he quoted the ACG as saying.

Suleman said that the ACG was on Inspection tour of correctional facilities in Edo command to ascertain compliance with operational guidelines in ensuring general security, safety of staff and inmates as well as on the reviewed guidelines on the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also said that during the three days inspection tour and on-the-spot assessment of the command, Okereke visited the state command headquarters, four custodial centres, as well as a female custodial facility.

Other facilities of the command visited according to the PRO were two farm centres, the Command’s Kennel (K-9) Unit, the soap cottage factory and bakery.

He that the ACG further admonished personnel to continue the good works of playing key role in the security arrangements of state.

“She acknowledged the commitment and sacrifices of the staff as well as their sustained efforts.

“She cautioned them against any form of lackadaisical attitude to work as any perceived form of laxity will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.

Suleman disclosed that the ACG advised inmates to be obedient and comply with the rules and regulations of the system.

“She told the inmates that efforts to decongest correctional facilities are continuous hence the need to exercise patience and compliance.

“As part of the inspection tour, she commissioned two Green Maria, one each for Medium Security Custodial Centres (MSCC) Benin (Old) and Auchi”.

Suleman said that the Controller of Corrections in the state, Mr Joseph Usendiah, appreciated the efforts of the CGC Ja’afaru Ahmed and the ACG for the support and attention given to the Command.

He said that Usendiah had noted that such attention had brought about enhanced performance from staff.

He further said that the Controller of Corrections also commended the collaborative efforts of stakeholders and the Edo Government in the Administration of Criminal Justice in the state.

The Zone ‘G’ Zonal Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) comprises of Edo, Delta, Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra States.
