A non-profit organization, Nigerian Nurses Charitable Association-United Kingdom, has advised Nigerian nurses to take precautionary measures both at work and at home to curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The association gave the advice in a statement signed by the President, Ms Wendy Olayiwola-Odutola, and Director for International Liason, Mr Peters Omoragbon, a copy of which was sent to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The officials said the nurses should be agents of change in the community by supporting and providing the right information to the public regarding COVID-19,

“Public health promotion is our responsibility, look after yourselves and each other; thank you for all you do and what you will do as we journey through this pandemic.

“Please refer to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) official document for your guide.’’

According to them, nurses and midwives are usually the first points of contact at any healthcare setting.

“ We do not underestimate the anxiety this is generating as we go through the process and phases of this pandemic.

“We believe and trust our nurses and midwives will rise to the challenges and beyond.’’

The officials, however, said that the association was in solidarity with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives and Federal Ministry of Health.

“We appreciate all our frontline Nigerian Nurses and Midwives who are working during these unprecedented times.

“You will need to adapt to the needs of Nigerian patients against the COVID-19,’’ they added.

NAN reports that Nurses Charitable Association-UK is a non-profitable organisation incorporated in January 1998 in the UK.

The association represents about 5,000 Nigerian nurses and midwives with established chapters nationwide.

The mission of the association is to provide a forum for collective action by Nigerian nurses to investigate, define and determine issues affecting its members.
