The Lagos Chapter of Nigerian Medical Association says most public hospitals in the state have been equipped with new facilities for emergency response in case of crisis during the general elections.

The Chairman, Dr Saliu Oseni, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.

He said the association had stimulated its members to be at alert for quick response in case there were casualties during the election periods both on February 23 and March 9.

“Prevention is better than cure, is what we say. When you have crisis, we do not know the extent to which it can go.

“The setup of some general hospitals in Lagos always has provisions for crisis management, where you have mass casualties.

“However, we appeal to our politicians to have the election in a peaceful environment, putting into consideration the people they want to lead so that the people can be in safe hands.

“We also need the unity of the country at this point in time,’’ Oseni said.

He also urged individuals, especially the youth not to allow themselves to be used as thugs to foment trouble.

“People should cast their votes in a peaceful manner and leave the venue once they are done.

“Parents should also caution their children to stay away from trouble that can lead to injury,’’ Oseni said.

“The association wishes all the candidates successful elections and we are committed and willing to work with whichever candidates wins.
