THE federal government has been called upon to take the fight against crime activities seriously by first of all raiding the affected areas of illicit drugs.

Eucharia Anazodo, the chairman, House Committee on the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, who made the call in Awka the Anambra state capital said no nation can effectively fight security challenges without taking the fight against the use of hard drugs seriously.

“Hard drugs have done more harm than good. Many youths have ruined their lives due to regular consumption of illicit drugs, thereby destroying their body system.

“Youths are to future of this nation and should be closely monitored to help in reshaping their ways of thinking, to be productive and engage them in meaningful projects.” Anazodo remarked.

The national legislator who paid a visit to the Anambra state command of NDLEA observed the need to adequately fund the agency to enhance the officers’ capacity.

While commending Governor Willie Obiano’s effort to raid the state of illicit drug abuse, Anazodo called on other state governors especially those from the Northern areas to support NDLEA to achieve a drug free society.

NDLEA House Committee chairman advocated more funding for effective service delivery.

She regretted that the federal government had not released the fund for the approved recruitment of 15,000 personnel since 2016, which according to her contributed to the delay in kicking off the exercise.
