DO you indulge in eating pasta, that is, a variety of processed food items found in modern western diet? If you do, then Ngozi Nwosu, a nutritionist in Imo State, has some words of advice for you. According to her, such diet is not good for the body because pasta such as spaghetti, noodles, among others, made from flour dough in fresh or processed form, does not have enough nutritional benefits. She said that other than carbohydrates, pasta has very few essential nutrients to offer.

Its nutrients include carbohydrate which is 79gram, dietary fibre, 3.2gram; sugar, 2.9gram; protein, 12gram; vitamin A, zero percent; vitamin C, zero percent; calcium, two percent; iron, six percent; vitamin B-6, five percent; vitamin B-12, zero percent. Besides, pasta is not even tasty when served on its own. According to her, this staple may seem hard to avoid, but keeping pasta out of one’s diet, can help one to lose weight more easily and better control the blood sugar levels adding that those who eat a lot of pasta are often overweight.

Realnews findings have revealed that pasta is made largely from refined white flour which, in itself, contains almost no dietary value and its consumption can have negative effects on human health. Also pasta contains a large amount of high glycemic index which is a carbohydrate.

These carbohydrates contained in pasta made from refined white flour will release sugar into the bloodstream quickly and this causes a steep rise in blood sugar and a similarly steep reactive rise in the body’s sugar regulating hormone which is insulin. According to fitnea, an online health website, most Italian dishes, such as fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti and lasagna, include a huge amount of pasta and avoiding pasta does not mean that one has to forget about favourite Italian meals but rather to replace the pasta with grain-free dishes. For instance, spaghetti squash tastes well as a substitute for pasta and it can be used as a base for the spaghetti sauce.
