THE Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Health Care Professionals Association (AHPA) on Monday embarked on a three-day peaceful protest nationwide to press home their demands.

The Chairman, Senior Staff Association, National Hospital Abuja, Jelili Kilami, said that the protest was aimed at appealing to the Federal Government to resolve various issues with the unions.

Kilami said the protest, which commenced on Monday, Feb. 11 will continue till Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 8a.m. to noon daily.

According to him, the protest is also to draw the attention of the public to the tyranny, injustices being perpetrated and meted-out on their members by the Ministry of Health.

He said that the salaries of JOHESU members for the months of April and May, 2018 and upward adjustment of CONHESS Salary Structure among others were still pending.

“The National body has called for three days protest to press home our demands which is mainly on salary adjustment for all our members.

“Also, the implementation of skipping salaries and payment of arrears as well as promotion of our members to highest level.

“Many of our members have not being promoted to level 17 as witnessed in other departments and specialist allowances were not approved for those who are entitled to it,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the protesting health workers were seen carrying placards with some inscriptions like: “improve our hospital facility’’; “pay us our April/May salaries.’’

Other inscriptions on the placards are: “our hospital is not for sale’’, “Don’t kill our hospital for personal interest,’’ among others. (NAN)
