HAVING children who will be the source of joy and happiness is the prayer of every couple. So it was for Osagie-Igiehon Ewaenosa 36, and his wife, Elizabeth, when their union produced a baby boy in July 2013. Their joy knew no bounds when Elizabeth delivered a baby boy. That joy was dampened shortly when baby Peter was discovered to have a hole in the heart 10 months after. Ewaenosa said neither he nor his wife suspected that the baby had any ailment.

Ewaenosa said “Peter fell very sick and had high temperature. My fears grew when I observed that his breathing was fast, rapid and not deep enough. I also observed that he was always feeling hot. He couldn’t sleep in the afternoon and even at night, he would wake up at intervals and laboured to breathe and that was when I knew that something was wrong. He doesn’t feed well and his oxygen level is 72 and was deteriorating so fast.

“I decided to take him to his paediatrician who noticed a purplish or bluish colour on his feet, fingers and tongue. The paediatrician said he was not going to prescribe any drugs and recommended  a cardiac examination.” However, Peter was taken to Mecure Specialist Hospital at Oshodi in Lagos, where he was eventually admitted and diagnosed with a dextocardia with dextrorotation (that is, hole-in-heart). The doctor also said that he should be treated immediately because his case was very severe. The doctor advised that he should be flown to the United States of America or India for proper surgery because his case was severe and would involve many stages of surgery because if he was not treated properly, it might lead to something worse.

According to the medical report signed by Chinyere Uzodimma, a consultant paediatrician and cardiologist, Peter was diagnosed with a dextrocardia univentricular heart, large ASD, TGA and pulmonary stenosis.

Ewaenosa, an auditor in an insurance company and his wife Elizabeth are calling on kind-hearted Nigerians to help them save the life of Peter who  means a lot to them. Ewaenosa can be reached on 08060613139 or help should be sent to them through the stated bank account- Peter Osaiyekemwen Ewaenosa 0690141061, Access Bank Plc.
