Sleep Expo Middle East supports global call for “Healthy Sleep, Healthy Ageing”

SLEEP loss continues to be an increasing problem in modern society, and so does the health risks associated with it. But while most of the discussions on sleep deficiency point to the many chronic health problems – heart  disease , hypertension,  diabetes , and obesity  – as among the most serious consequences, the cost of poor sleep is much more straightforward than many people think – it accelerates human ageing!

Sleep is a time when the body rests and regenerates itself, and at this point cell repair also takes place. When we do not get enough restful sleep, our bodies’ metabolic processes go in disarray, even causing cell damage. Several studies have already shown that sound sleep habits can make a big difference in your quality of life. Many more researches cite the numerous youthful benefits of having a great night’s sleep – smooth clear skin, better memory, greater alertness, quicker reflexes and stronger immune system, among them.

In light of the celebration of World Sleep Day on March 15, Sleep Expo Middle East, the region’s first-of-its-kind event dedicated to promoting a growing sleep movement, joins the global call for greater awareness and education on the importance of quality sleep in healthy ageing. World Sleep Day, an internationally-recognised awareness event, is hosted by the World Sleep Society. This year, the event is bannered under the slogan ‘Healthy Sleep, Healthy Ageing,’ highlighting the message that quality of life can be improved with healthy sleep.

“The importance of sleep for good health cannot be overstated.  Quality sleep in an individual’s younger years helps in good mental development.  In the same manner, there is mounting research that indicates maintaining sound sleep habits in middle age protects one against age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s Disease during senior years.  This is important to keep in mind, especially with Alzheimer’s Disease, AD, found to be spreading fast in the MENA region and the World Health Organisation predicting a 125% increase in the region’s number of AD cases by 2050,” Abdul Karim Al-Sulaiman, the managing director, Bed Quarter Company, the exclusive authorised distributor of TEMPUR® mattresses and pillows in the region, said.

TEMPUR is widely recognised as the only mattress and pillow brand licensed by the US Space Foundation to use NASA’s Certified Technology Seal.  TEMPUR mattresses relieve stress by redistributing your weight and eliminating pressure points, ultimately allowing the user to get a comfortable night’s sleep.  Bed Quarter Company is bringing the latest TEMPUR offerings to Sleep Expo Middle East.

Echoing the same view is Jeffrey Chartouni, sales manager – UAE, Sleeping Plaza, who said: “Getting quality sleep is one of the best things you can do for your health, beauty and overall wellbeing. While growing old is inevitable, we can still age gracefully by looking and feeling better, and prioritising healthy sleep habits in our daily lives can help us achieve this.” Sleeping Plaza is your local sleep expert, whose dusty is to enhance its customers’ overall wellbeing by providing them with a personalized sleeping experience. At the event, the company will showcase a wide selection of smart sleeping systems from Royal Auping and the brand’s unique Technogel mattresses and pillows.

“Wrinkles, saggy skin and dark circles around the eyes are just some of the most obvious side effect of sleep deprivation.  But beyond the face and beneath the skin, your body is aging too, putting your health at greater risk.  Based on studies, just one night of insufficient sleep can make an adults’ cells age quicker,” Raj Shekhar, the general manager, Dufill Industries, LLC, said.

A home-grown brand, Dufill Industries is one of the largest manufacturers of bed linens in the Middle East.  The company is licensed by reputed European brands to manufacture bed linens for hotels, hospitals, airlines, staff residences, labour and military camps.

Ideal for both B2B and B2C, Sleep Expo Middle East is poised to bring together sleep experts and innovators to discuss and showcase the latest advances in in the sleep technology space.
