The Indian Medical Team at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka have been recording more successes as many patients have been treated free of charge.

When a team of journalists from the Anambra State Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment visited the hospital, some of the patients were seen receiving medical attention.

Sanjay Purohip, a urosurgeon, was seen operating on a 10-month old-baby, who had complications of paediatric hernia.

Purohip said that he handled cases that included kidney abnormal, descended testes, conjunctivitis, paediatrics hernia, intercessor disorder.

The paediatric urologist said that they had operated on six patients and 10 more were admitted.

He noted that more patients were still coming, but it would be unfortunate they might not give all of them attention.

“There are more patients waiting, but I don’t think we can finish up,’’ he said.

Purohip said he was satisfied at the turnout of patients, saying that efforts were being made to contain some of their problems.

He urged patients to cultivate the habit of visiting medical practitioners and not to wait until the ailment had reached epidemic level.

However, at the ear, nose and throat ward, Prataash G. Baht, the surgeon in charge, said that he had operated on three patients and was carrying out a fourth one when the journalists arrived.

He stressed that many patients couldn’t afford hospital bill, urging the government to help them by taking initiative to get medical facilities.

“There are lots of countries with lots of Non-Governmental Organisations, NGO, ready to serve, so government should partner them,’’ Baht said.

The doctor commended Anambra State Government and the hospital management for their cooperation.

Meanwhile, Ezeanodu Chinyere, a breast cancer patient, from Ifite-Ani Village Agulu, who was successfully operated upon by the Medical team expressed gratitude to the team and the state government.

Ezeanodu enjoined mothers to go for medical treatment whenever they noticed any lumps on their breasts to avoid breast cancers.
