Saving a million lives visit holding centres at Umueri General Hospital

THE Saving One Million Life, SOML, a group from the Federal Ministry of Health donated drugs and relief materials to flood victims at Umueri General Hospital, Holding Centre.

Ngozi Eke, the assistant programmes manager, SOML, said it was an intervention programme of the Federal Government, designed to take care of child under the age of five and women of child-bearing age.

“SOML has six different interventions areas which are part of maternal child health interventions.

“Three of these interventions areas are for children under five years of age. These are for vitamin A supplementation, Immunisation and use of long lasting treated nets.

“Other three are skilled birth attendants, family planning and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV and Aids,” she said.

Eke stressed that they were visiting holding centres in the state to teach the flood victims how to achieve healthy living during their stay at the centres.

“Our visit here today (Oct. 7) at Umueri General Hospital is to intervene because of the flood issue that affected people from Anambra West LGA and because of number of flood Victims residing in this camp.

“You know that where people of this number stay in a particular environment like this, there is bound to be some health challenges like outbreak of diseases.

“That is why we are here to teach them on how to live healthily and provide some drugs,” Eke said.

She thanked Anambra State government for its various interventions toward alleviating the plight of victims in the state.

The visit witnessed presentation of food items, drugs, long-lasting treated net and other relief materials to victims.
