THE November 16, governorship election in Anambra State, has continued to generate debate in the country. Some people believe that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, rigged the election in favour of the ruling party in the state, while others said that the opposition should accept the outcome of the election in good faith. Below are what some Nigerians think about the election.

Onyebuchi Nnadozie, Student: I think it is time for Attahiru Jega to go. How can he organise an election in which the name of one of the candidates and his family members were missing in the voters register? Nigerian public office holders should learn to take responsibility for their actions. Every election Jega has organised has been disastrous, and he keeps promising to do better while in actual fact he is doing worse. He should do the right thing and resign because he had all the time in the world to prepare for this election, he had all the money he needed; he had all the manpower he needed yet he failed Nigerians.

Elvis Isaac, Businessman: I believe elections in this country should be free and fair. What INEC did in Anambra was a shoddy job and nobody should support that no matter the person’s party affiliation. I also believe that there is no perfect election anywhere in the world, but in as much as such election reflects the wish of the majority of the electorate and complies substantially with the electoral law, the outcome should be acceptable.

Johnson Dieke, Graduate: The outcome of Anambra election has again reminded everyone that nothing works in Nigeria. I’m surprised that INEC is still putting up a bold face having disappointed this nation. It’s regrettable that Attahiru Jega has lost his credibility and name he built over the years. I’m aware that no system is perfect but a situation where the database is being tampered with is very serious. The problem of INEC is man-made and has to be stamped out.

Charles Ezugwu, Banker: The election was a fraud. Anambra people need a re-run of the election. Peter Obi, incumbent governor, has been a failure. He had killed APGA a long time ago. This new APGA is not real but is working with the PDP with the aim of delivering the state to President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. This new APGA lacks national cream and cannot go anywhere.

Azubuike

Kingsley Azubuike, Businessman: The outcome of Anambra governorship election has exposed INEC and the level of systemic failure in this country. So much was committed into this election and yet, no encouraging report came out of the process. If a single state election has been messed up this much, then what are we to expect in 2015? I know it would be unfair to blame Attahiru Jega, personally but then, someone has to take the blame. He is the head of the commission that conducted the election, so, he should be made accountable.

Damian Chigozie, Marketer: The opposition parties should allow us to have peace in this country. When they lose an election, they should accept their fate as in sports because one person must win the election even if INEC cancels it. So, there is nothing wrong in Governor Peter Obi having a successor in mind and working for APGA to win. He became governor under the platform and remained there for eight years despite being the only governor of the party. Then, how can anybody feel that he will not want APGA to continue in the state?
