How do you see President Goodluck Jonathan’s midterm score-card?

THE midterm score-card presented by President Goodluck Jonathan on May 29, has continued to generate controversy in the country. Some Nigerians, mostly those from the opposition political parties disagree with the president, saying that the developmental growth of the country is drastically on the decline, while others believe that the president has done well within the first two years under review. Below are what some Nigerians have said on the presidential score-card.

Samuel Ifeanyichukwu, Engineer: Where did he perform? Is it in power, security, job creation, corruption or other infrastructural developments? The President knows he has failed Nigerians. It is the non-performance of the President that pushed him into fighting imaginary enemies. A performing President moves with an air of confidence, knowing that the people are on his side.

Moses Edeh, Public Servant: What we are seeing is growth without development. All the impressive economic figures being reeled out by his administration are not transmitted into the quality of lives of many Nigerians. Believe me, if you take the statistics, you will find out that an average Nigerian is worse off than the way he or she was when President Goodluck Jonathan assumed office in 2011.

Theresa Ezeora, Graduate: I thought it ridiculous that the President is asking the people to bring out a marking scheme before they could express what they were going through under his administration. Nigerians need no marking scheme to know that unemployment has worsened in the country, to know that security of lives and property, as well as the welfare of the citizenry are at the lowest level.

Christopher Okoro, Politician: He has done well within two years; his achievements speak volumes about his style of leadership. All the achievements he mentioned are facts and verifiable as well. They are there for all to see. My problem is the way and manner the opposition parties are handling the report. I believe that we Nigerians are the ones to be talking and not those that will never see anything good in Jonathan’s administration.

Onyekachi Obasi, Hotelier: President Jonathan has delivered on his mandate in some sectors, but much is still needed to be done. One thing I like about the report is that he gave a good account of himself at least for being the first president to present his mid-term report to the people. He presented to Nigerians what he has done in the last two years and if you disagree with him, write your own report for Nigerians as well.

Charles Ejkeme, Social Commentator: Jonathan has done nothing to score his administration even average. Under the Jonathan administration, public funds are still being mismanaged, wasted and looted by public office holders; these have helped in no small way to fuel official corruption, unemployment, infrastructural decay, insecurity, poverty and hunger in the land. I make bold to say that the foundation of his administration’s transformation agenda and policy thrust are yet to be laid, hence the chaotic state of affairs in our polity.
