THE All Progressives Congress says it will boycott the proposed national conference. Some Nigerians believe that the absence of its members will not affect the conference, while others feel that federal government should consider the position of the APC in order to accommodate everybody. Below are the views of some Nigerians on the issue.
George Okeke, Engineer: It means nothing to me. From the onset, the APC has refused to see anything good about this present administration. The national conference is what Nigeria needs now, so whether the APC is in support of or not, the most important thing is that we Nigerians need the national conference and not the APC.
Donatus Ofili, Public Servant: The absence of APC members will have no effect on the proposed national conference. If they think that we will go through a civil war again 43 years after all the sufferings this country went through, that person must be joking.
Charles Ejikeme, Civil Servant: The declaration of APC to boycott the conference is a clear indication that its leaders are the enemies of this great country. It is obvious that President Goodluck Jonathan is not the problem of this country, rather the so called progressives. What is wrong with a people coming together to discuss their problems? Is it not one way to ease tension in the current situation we find ourselves?
Chinedu Abaugo, Social Commentator: The conference will go on come rain, come shine. Enough of all these cheatings in this country. Those who want to stay away are free to do so. But I know Nigeria, for every one person who is protesting, there are other 10 begging to attend.
Gabriel Okwor, Civil Servant: The APC has a strong point in ignoring the national conference. The PDP has made it a party affair when President Goodluck Jonathan, said the National Assembly will ratify the outcome of the conference. Who is the majority in the NASS? No one can fool Nigerians about this so-called conference, because people had lost their lives for it. So, it must be a genuine conference not a kangaroo arrangement meant to please the PDP.
Peter Eze, Politician: What we are having is national conference of ethnic nationalities and not a political conference. Many Nigerians do not belong to any political party, but are only concerned with being given the best in governance. So, the APC is free to boycott it.
