A Yoruba socio-cultural group, Odua Progressive Care Initiatives (OPCI), on Tuesday identified devolution of power as a holistic solution to the myriads  of challenges bedevilling the country.

Mr Maruf  Olarewaju, the National Coordinator of the group, made a case for devolution of power   at the inauguration of the Kwara chapter of the organisation in Ilorin.

Olarewaju expressed worry that the country’s  challenges  were  becoming more complex.

According to him, each state will develop at its own pace through devolution of power  thereby creating healthy  competition.

Olarewaju, who backed the calls  for restructuring, argued  that the political and economic structures of the country needed an overhaul.

“Nigeria’s  challenges cannot be solved overnight because they are  complex.

“Here I come with profound solution to the social, political, security and economic crises.

“The holistic solution is restructuring so that we can easily curb the incessant killing of innocent souls.

“States should be allowed to have their police and as well as control  their resources,’’ he said.

Olarewaju, who noted that the group was formed to promote  the welfare of  members,  also bemoaned the high rate of corruption in the country.

He blamed the menace for the slow pace of  economic growth in the country.

The coordinator  also said that the organisation was currently present in 17 states of the federation.

In his lecture, a don, Prof. Salaudeen Akande,  urged the organisation to prioritise human capital development.

He said the only way an  organisation could  empower its members was  to raise the standard of living in the society.
