
Ikorodu City posts five-star performance against Lobi Stars FC

IN yet another dominant performance, Ikorodu City FC on Monday posted a five-star display to beat visiting Lobi Stars FC 4-2.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture was played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The dominant display against the Alia Boys has thus stretched the unbeaten streak by the Oga Boys to three matches in a row.
The revival had started off in the NPFL Match Day 6 when the Oga Boys spanked Bendel Insurance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The Lagos Boys then grabbed a vital one point away at Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri against Heartland FC after holding the host 1-1 in the Match Day 7 affair.
Upon returning to their base, the Oga boys continued from where they stopped as the flurry of goals started pouring in second minute of the first half.
Striker Salau Yusuf got his first- ever NPFL goal and a criss cross combination of passes between Shola Adelani and the skipper, Waliu Ojetoye.
With seventeen minutes apart, Emmanuel Solomon also opened his goal account in the NPFL goal with a beautiful strike after recieving a tight corner pass from Harrison Austin.
The Oga Boys suffered a slip as Lobi Stars rallied back in the 50th minute,courtesy Assurance Ifeanyi ,who capitalised on the Ikorodu City FC’s defensive error to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Not done, in the six minutes added time Ifeanyi once again rose up to the occasion to level up the score at 2-2 through a decent finish to ensure that both clubs headed back to the dressing room all squared.
After some tactical changes in the first half, Ikorodu City FC got a lead in the 56th minute as a pinpoint cross from Harrison Austin was met with a brilliant header by Alade Solomon to put the score at 3-2 in the 56th minute.
Ikorodu City doubled the lead in the 58th minute as substitute and former Sporting Lagos FC player, Rivio Ayemwenre, scored a beautiful curler to put the sword on Lobi Stars.
Ikorodu City FC’s Harrison told NAN on the sidelines of the match that the dark days were over for the team.
“Oh! those dark days are over, we are not a push over team, we want to prove ourselves more on the pitch now.
“We just needed some time to jell, and now, we are on track,” he said.
NAN reports that Ikorodu City is out of the relegation waters and is now 17th on the NPFL log with eight points from eight matches, having two wins, two draws and four losses. (NAN)
