The World Health Organisation (WHO) Office in Abuja, Nigeria, says expanding access to immunisation is vital for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and universal health coverage.
The UN health agency said this in its official twitter account @WHONigeria to commemorate the World Immunisation week.
World Immunisation Week aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease and it is celebrated in the last week of April.
The body restated that immunisation saves millions of lives every year and is widely recognised as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions.
The theme of 2020 campaign is: ‘Protected Together: Vaccines Work’. “Expanding access to immunisation is vital for achieving the SDGs, poverty reduction and universal health coverage.
“WHO joins the world to commemorate the World Immunisation Week 2020. Remember vaccines work as we appreciate midwives, nurses as well as other immunisation workers,’’ the agency said. (NAN)
