THE Ijaw National Congress (INC) worldwide, has congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and expressed hope for partnership with Nigeria to solve global challenges, including environmental issues.

This is contained in a congratulatory letter by Prof. Benjamin Okaba, President, INC worldwide in Abuja on Monday.

Okaba urged Trump to use his Presidency to promote global unity, understanding and fight environmental challenges, such as those facing oil-producing communities.

Okaba, in the letter, said as the umbrella socio-cultural organisation and representative body of the Ijaw people worldwide, the INC recognises the importance of fostering positive relationships between nations-states.

“Under your leadership, we hope for increased dialogue and partnership on issues affecting our communities, recognising our distinct homogeneous race in the Niger Delta region of the Nigerian State.

“We also expect dialogue and partnership on environmental protection to help us in preserving our natural resources for the present and future generations.

“Other areas include economic development, that is empowering economic growth and stability, and cultural exchange, that is celebrating diversity and promoting cross-cultural understanding,” he wrote.

Okaba also said that the INC acknowledges the significance of the moment for the American President-elect and the trust it placed on him to lead the good people of America.

“On behalf of the INC worldwide, the umbrella socio cultural organisation of ljaw people of Nigeria we extend our warmest congratulations to you on your historic elections as the 47th President of the United States of America.
