INEC swears-in new Resident Electoral Commissioner

THE Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has sworn in a new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in a conference held by the INEC on Wednesday 23rd February 2022, in Abuja.

Olaniyi Babalola Ijalaye, a legal practitioner, has been sworn in by the INEC chairman to fill the vacancy for the Ogun State Residential Electoral Commissioner – REC.

In this light, he made it known that the current REC of Ogun State, Olusegun Agbaje, will be redeployed to Lagos State as the new REC of the state.

He also informed that the handing over and taking of will be concluded by Monday 28th February 2022; “Handing and taking over is to be concluded by Monday 28th February 2022,” he said. 

The chairman drew attention to the challenging task of the new National and Residential Commissioners; “let me draw the attention of the new National and Resident Electoral Commissioners to the reality of serving in INEC. The task ahead is challenging,” he said.

He also expressed his trust that the new commissioners will continue to raise the bar of credible elections in Nigeria.
