THE Catholic Bishop, Ekwulobia Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Okpalaeke, says it will be foolish to deny the non existence of Coronavirus pandemic.

“Such an irresponsible argument can compel people to ignore its preventive protocols.

“Coronavirus preventive measures are meant to stop people from contracting the disease.’’

The cleric was speaking during a homily at a Funeral Mass for Mrs. Theresa Nnajiofor, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Umueze Uga, on Jan. 8.

“If you think it is not in existence, what will you lose in protecting yourself? Coronavirus is a deadly disease that has led to death of many across the world; devastated government and individual economies.

“Do not wait until it gets to you before you believe its existence. You may not survive it,’’ he cautioned.

Rev. Okpalaeke, then, asked people within reach of his voice, “is there anything you will lose by washing your hands with soap under running water regularly?

“Staying away from another person at a distance of 2 metres apart, putting on nose masks as you go out, avoiding handshakes?  These can only help to stop you from contracting the disease.

“Is it injurious to avoid, an avoidable gathering/trips, use of hand sanitisers, where there is no water?

“If there is no harm in doing these things, why don’t we do them, for the protection of our lives and those of our loved ones.’’

He enjoined Christians to take news of Coronavirus pandemic existence home to avert possible lockdown.

“If the number of Coronavirus infections continues to increase, the government may not have an option than to lockdown again.

“You know how difficult it was when government imposed the lockdown the first time. Please help the church to prevent a second lockdown,’’ he pleaded.
